H. 'Paradigm'

A posting on one of the forums I frequent that dealt with the proper pronunciation of 'Paradigm' was what lead me to contact the writer when there was an indication she might be game to do some trading. Obviously she was and the exchange was all done very quickly. No doubt this is the largest of the 8 varieties I received mid August '08 and after some humming and hawing it was given a 2 gallon pot to grow in for this season.

Hosta of the Year This cultivar was selected Hosta of the Year for 2007 by the American Hosta Growers Association. To receive this honor the plant must be readily available in the nursery trade for retail distribution and meet the criteria for pricing, which is around $15 in the year of selection.

For 2009 'Paradigm' has been given a home in a location that sees direct sun from about 9AM to around noon. It was slow to begin showing its variegation, that may well be par for the course with this variety, 2009 will be the first full season in our yard.

It does seem to like the spot it's in for 2009, it sees sun from about 9AM to about 2PM and so far there is not a hint of burn-out. Let's hope we can keep it that way...

2010 marks the third season in the yard for this cultivar. And you might say that it's rather vigorous. It's still in the same 2 gallon pot, but it'll get transplanted before season's end, it might even get divided...
