H. 'Sagae'
On the way home on Friday night July 18th, I stopped by a fellow gardener who was game for trading some Hostas. Another 4 varieties were added is the long -'Sagae'- and short
-gracillima- of it. To illustrate the point, here they both are, you can just barely see the gracillima in the pot.
Next year I wouldn't expect this to be quite this tall, but we'll see. It sure looks impressive the size it is at now and commands attention with its upright, vase like growth habit.
Unfortunately this plant was lost over the winter. The soil mix in the pot wasn't aerated well enough I suspect and the crown was lost to rot. I'll have to get another one, I have just the spot for a tall Hosta with an upright growth habit.
All's not lost however, it looks as if I have another one coming through a trade... just have to make sure I keep a close eye on the drainage issue over winter.
Here we are, the new arrival. Looking a little parched still from its journey from Brandon, MB, but that I have no doubt it'll
come around quite quickly.
A couple of days of rehydration works wonders for new arrivals.
